South of the river and North of the King's palace is Lemon Beach. This beach is used in some areas for swimming and families come here for picknicking. Here you may rent a bungalow or hut to stay for a few days. Currently (2004 to 2007 and may beyond) the situation does not advice to travel here, because of the terror of a minority of some radical Muslim insurgents. There is a curfew in act and it is advised for tourist or non-muslim to travel each road only once, so there is no planed attack likely.

This beach is used mostly by locals. In the southern part of the beach are food vendors and other small daytime stalls located. As further North the beach becomes more empty. There are no safeguards. The waves are pretty high and swimming is very risky. The sand is white/tan. It is a good place to watch the see and to walk along the beach (i visited the beach between 1999 and 2006 yearly in May and November and never found it a safe place to swim).
